An introduction to Assisted Living in Connecticut
- A Connecticut Assisted Living Services Agency provides:
- nursing services and assistance with activities of daily living provided to clients living within a managed residential community having supportive services that encourage clients primarily age fifty-five (55) or older to maintain a maximum level of independence. Routine household services may be provided as assisted living services by the assisted living services agency
- In Connecticut, a Residential Care Home is:
- an institution having facilities and all necessary personnel to furnish food, shelter and laundry for two or more persons unrelated to the proprietor and in addition, providing services of a personal nature which do not require the training or skills of a licensed nurse. Additional services of a personal nature may include assistance with bathing, help with dressing, preparation of special diets and supervision over medications which are self-administered;

Assisted Living defined*An assisted living residence is a special combination of housing, personalized supportive services and health care designed to meet the needs -- both scheduled and unscheduled — of those who need help with activities of daily living.
These needs usually include meals each day served in a common dining area, housekeeping services, assistance with eating, bathing, dressing, toileting and walking, 24-hour security and staff availability, medication management, personal laundry services, and others.
