That's the average cost in the state for a Semi-Private room, according to a survey published by the MetLife Mature Market Institute*. The projected yearly cost of $63,875 is based on an estimate of 365 days. (A private room has an average cost of $216 per day, or $78,840 a year.)

Chicago, the Des Plaines area, Peoria, or elsewhere.
In Chicago for example, the average cost of a semi-private room was $183 per day. In the Des Plaines area it was $208. In Peoria it was $173. In the rest of the state, it was $152 daily.

The Highs and Lows of Costs in the State

The rates in our chart reflect average costs. There were many facilities that charged more or less than the average. A semi-private room in the state ranged from a low of $99 to a high of $320. That's a spread, for a year's cost, of $36,135 to $116,800!

The 2012 average was the same as the 2011 average of $175 per day for a semi-private room.

Illinois was the 31st most expensive state for nursing home care.

Illinois ranked 31st for the cost of a nursing home room in the United States, according to this survey. Ohio ranked just above, and Wyoming just under. The United States average cost for a semi-private room was was $222 per day. A private room was $248.
