This Program --called MAPC-- serves to help chronically ill or disabled individuals, or the frail elderly, to remain at home with a long-term plan of care instead of entering a nursing home or other facility. The program can pay for a personal care helper who gives help with activities of daily living.
Meal prep and feeding, bathing and dressing, laundry, grocery shopping, escorting to medical appointments or work and other services. (Personal Care services are often provided by Residential Care Agencies, which are included in our directory listings for each county and principal cities.) The program includes regular home visits by a registered nurse.
You must be enrolled in Medical Assistance, under a physician's care, frail or disabled, and in need of help with daily living activities. There is no age requirement if you qualify.
This is state program that is part of Maryland Medical Assistance (Medicaid). It is administered on a local basis, however, by the county health department.
