Is Charlotte, NC a good place to retire?

Walt Dibbern, Owner:dibbern.com OPINION: WALT DIBBERN (Owner:dibbern.com)
Retirement is a highly personal decision; what's great for me might be just the opposite for you. What I can do, however, is provide you with a snapshot of some important factors about Charlotte, NC. Take a look, and hopefully, this will help you find the right place to settle down. I wish you happiness in a long and satisfying retirement.

  1. Charlotte's climate, North Carolina four distinct seasons. The winters are mild, compared to the northern states. If you're from the colder northern regions, you'll probably like it in Charlotte.
  2. The Charlotte area's cost of living is one of the highest in all North Carolina cities.
  3. According to the website Charlottesgotalot.com, Charlotte offers many state-of-the-art performance venues, and recognized art museums. Charlotte's neighborhoods are rich in parks, museums, and boutiques., including museums, parks, and a thriving arts scene.
  4. Healthcare costs: ccording to Forbes, North Carolina is the third-worst state for healthcare overall and the worst state in the country for healthcare costs. The good news is that many Charlotte, NC Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs) provide a continuum of care that includes assisted living, memory care, rehabilitation, and skilled nursing long-term care.
  5. The North Carolina and local tax situation is considered favorable for many retirees. Social Security retirement benefits are usually tax-exempt and other retirement income sources have favorable tax treatments. Retirees might find their dollar stretches further in Raleigh compared to other states.
