The Ohio Department of Health is responsible for the licensing and oversight of Ohio's 964 nursing care facilities, including nursing homes, Transitional Care Units, and Rehab Facilities.

The Division of Quality Assurance conducts on-site surveys to verify that a facility meets state and federal rules. Enforcement actions can be taken if a facility fails to meet compliance regulations. The Division also investigates complaints related to resident's rights, quality of care, quality of life, staffing, abuse, dietary and environmental concerns.
